Custom Grill Deck – Expanding Functionality from the Porch

What started as a simple set of stairs off our screened-in porch quickly transformed into a fully functional grill deck—built for durability, style, and better outdoor living.

The Challenge
Our original setup had a basic set of builder-grade stairs leading down from the porch, offering little usable space and zero practicality for cooking or entertaining. We wanted something more substantial—a dedicated grilling platform that would feel like a natural extension of the porch, not just an afterthought.

The Build

• Structure: We framed out a new elevated platform with pressure-treated lumber and secured it to concrete footings for a solid, code-compliant foundation.

• Decking: For a long-lasting finish, we used low-maintenance composite decking in a warm brown tone that ties in beautifully with the porch flooring.

• Railing System: We installed modern black balusters with white posts and brown rails to match the trim of the home while providing safety and a clean, elevated look.

• Stairs: The new stairway was custom-built with matching composite treads and finished white risers for a crisp contrast and polished appearance.

Function & Form
Now, the grill has its own designated zone—away from foot traffic and with enough space to prep, cook, and serve without feeling cramped. Holiday lights were the finishing touch, bringing seasonal warmth to a space that’s as useful as it is inviting.

This upgrade not only improved the aesthetic flow from the porch down to the yard but created a true outdoor cooking station that enhances how we entertain and enjoy our backyard.
